It’s a wing and a prayer. Well. A prayer.

Don’t run away because I’m talking about prayer. Prayer is many things to many people.  But. At its core, prayer is a form of communication. Between us and something else.

It’s the act of reaching out from within, whether to a higher power, the Universe, the divine, or even just the stillness inside ourselves. Some people pray with words, others in silence. Some kneel, some walk, some weep, some sing. Some just sit and be perfectly still.

Prayer can be a request, a confession, a thank-you, a moment of surrender, or simply a deep breath in the middle of a chaotic day. It’s not always about asking for something—it’s often about connecting. Aligning. Being present. In joy or in sorrow, in hope or in fear, prayer is a way of saying: I am here. I’m listening. I’m open.

It doesn’t have to be fancy or perfect. Sometimes, a whispered “help” or a quiet “thank you” is more powerful than a thousand eloquent words.

Here is the thing.  People have probably been praying since people became people. It has definitely been practiced for thousands of years across all cultures and religions.

There are many benefits to praying.  Speaking to the energy that exists in this Universe, whatever that might mean to each one of us.

Prayer offers us emotional comfort.  It can reduce stress and anxiety.  It gives us a sense of purpose and connection to the world we are in, and the world beyond.  Prayer encourages gratitude. And that is always good. It can help with forgiveness. It fosters hope for goodness in this world. In this Universe.

It is powerful.

It doesn’t matter who we pray to.  Whether we call upon God, Spirit, the Universe, nature, or any other source of higher guidance.

The act of prayer is the connection of our souls to the greater good.  It invites us to tap into a divine connection that is unique to each of us.
