Birds By Linda Stowe
Eagle. Owl. Canary. Peacock. Stork. Vulture. Six kinds of birds and each has a story so distinct that an image immediately comes to mind. And the store is far from empty. Dove. Raven. Cuckoo. And on. What is it about birds? I cannot think of any other animal that has such a wide range of symbolism.

Polly here. Polly wanna cracker?
Oh, that parrot.
Linda is right about all these good birds. I hadn’t thought about this before, but birds do have a wide range of symbolism and meaning amongst the different breeds.
Most other animals don’t have such a distinction between the various types. Like bears. Or squirrels. Or elephants. (Perhaps dogs are akin in being identified uniquely, but not with such symbolism.)
Like these. Eagle — strength, freedom, and vision from above.
Owl — wisdom, mystery, and seeing through darkness.
Crow — transformation, trickery, and messages from the unseen.
Raven — prophecy, death, and deep magic.
Dove — peace, purity, and divine love.
Swan — grace, beauty, and spiritual awakening.
Hawk — focus, clarity, and decisive action.
Peacock — pride, immortality, and renewal.
Phoenix — rebirth, resilience, and eternal life.
Hummingbird — joy, vitality, and the sweetness of life.
Crane — longevity, balance, and good fortune.
Parrot — communication, mimicry, and colorful expression.
Vulture — purification, survival, and recycling of life.
Stork — new beginnings, fertility, and safe delivery.
Bluebird — happiness, hope, and cheerful promise.
Cardinal — vitality, devotion, and spirit messengers.
Blackbird — hidden knowledge, mystery, and omens.
Rooster — vigilance, dawn, and courage to announce truth.
I love birds.
Scientists estimate there are about 50 billion individual birds in the world at any given time.
In terms of variety, there are roughly 10,000–11,000 recognized species of birds worldwide. Oh, those glorious birds. But I should add. That’s a lot of poop just waiting to hit your windshield.
Regardless. Here’s to all the good birds in the world and everything they symbolize. May the bluebird of happiness be with you today. And for that matter, the hummingbird, too.
