The best gift we give.

The Quiet Gift

Today, I saw a Red-Shouldered Hawk.  Majestic. Beautiful.  She was just hanging out, being her good hawk self.

A beautiful thing.  She knows her self-worth.  She is a gift to this world.

I hope beautiful things happen to you.  Each day.  And when they do, I hope you can believe you are worthy of every single one of them.

Because here’s the thing. The greatest gift you’ll ever give someone isn’t wrapped in a box and topped with a bow.

The gift you give others is not even spoken aloud most of the time.

It’s the feeling you give others.  It is the quiet, unspoken permission to exist freely.  All of us.

To breathe without fear. To live in a world where it is okay to be who we are.

That’s real generosity. That’s the real gift.

It’s letting someone know they are safe in our presence, safe in their skin, safe in their truth.

We don’t have to fix anyone’s lives.
Sometimes our calm belief in others is enough to remind them that they are worthy.  All people are worthy. Not because of what we’ve done, but simply because we are human. We are all in this together.

All of us are flawed, beautiful, complicated. And most of all. We are alive.

So, if we ever wonder what to give the world today, we should give that beautiful thing.  The silent gift of acceptance.
The beautiful reminder that it’s okay to just be.
