Some Fears By Linda Stowe
While it is worth noting that although a basic fear of heights is an innate evolutionary instinct, some people are more fearful of heights than others. I am one of those people and I don’t know why that is. I have never experienced any unusual falls or anything approaching that.
I have ridden on rollercoasters and Ferris wheels and been in a tall tower or two. I once rode the elevator on the outside of a tall hotel in Atlanta, but I admit that I kept my eyes shut the entire time.
Meanwhile other people are skydiving and rock climbing and all sorts of scary things. What is it about them that they can bring themselves to do that, but I cannot?
Ironically, I have heard that public speaking is the #1 fear that people have, yet this is something I have done several times. Fear is a primal response, but it doesn’t seem to affect us all in the same way.

Polly here.
I used to be terribly afraid of heights. Now, high places don’t bother me at all. I have often wondered how “fears” like these work. How they come and how they go.
I used to have a myriad of fears. Some of those were the fear of flying. I feared bugs, spiders, snakes, small spaces, and more. Now, I am not afraid of any of these. They all went away about 20 years ago.
Linda mentioned how fears affect different people in different ways. It is very curious how this works. Some people don’t bat an eye when it comes to diving off the high board. Others can’t even climb the ladder.
With that said. May we all dive deeply into this thing called life, with all its cares, its worries, and its fears.
It would be a wonderful thing if we could get past some of our fears. Hopefully, they don’t stop us from being our good selves.
