I don’t travel much these days. Most of you know that I am a homebody, through and through. I’d rather stay home. Period.
But traveling can be good for us. It exposes us to new places, ideas, cultures, foods, and more.
Let’s face it, though. Travel isn’t cheap. Between airfare, food, activities, and local transportation, costs add up fast. And maybe the biggest cost might be our hotel stays. In certain U.S. cities, it might be a mighty big cost.
A recent analysis by Gourmet Marketing has revealed the 25 U.S. cities with the highest average hotel prices. They looked at one-night stays from a Saturday to a Sunday. They focused on hotels with a 3-star rating or higher and located within about 1.9 miles (3 kilometers) of each city center.
It would have been my first guess. But Boston tops the list. Yes, coming in at number one is Boston, Massachusetts, with an average hotel price of $460.56 per night.
New York City isn’t far behind, averaging $404.07 per night. This would have been my first guess, as the Big Apple remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
Finishing out the top three is Orlando, Florida. Again, this was a surprise to me. It might be because it is home to Disney World and Universal Studios. Orlando hotels average $401.14 per night.

The main thing I seek in a hotel is cleanliness. I don’t care where it is or what it looks like out the window. The inside has to be as clean as my home. And that is a tall order, let me tell you. I am the Queen of Clean.
