I sure do like Canada. Although I haven’t been there since I was 12 years old. That day, it was cold and rainy, and I just saw a little bit of Windsor, Ontario.
But there is so much goodness in the depths of Canada.
Have a peek at this little gem.
This place is hidden in the hills near Osoyoos, British Columbia. It sounds like OH-so-use. Anyway, this is really one of Earth’s quiet miracles. And it wears its magic in plain sight.
To the Syilx (Okanagan) people, it is known as Kłlilx’w, or Spotted Lake. For thousands of years, it has been a sacred place of medicine, reverence, and healing.
When summer arrives, the heat begins to dry out the lake. And then, something extraordinary happens. As the water recedes, it reveals hundreds of shimmering circles. They look like coins left behind by the gods.
Each “spot” is a small pool rich in minerals—magnesium sulfate, calcium, sodium sulfates, and even traces of silver and titanium. The colors shift and glow from white and turquoise to green, yellow, or blue. It all depends on temperature and concentration.
There are said to be 365 spots, one for each day of the year. The Syilx people believe each pool carries its own healing purpose. They say it is medicine for the body, spirit, and world. Sacred ceremonies were once held around the lake to restore balance and offer gratitude.
In the early 1900s, a non-Indigenous entrepreneur tried to bottle its waters and even turn it into a spa. But the “Spotted Lake” had other plans. The Syilx Nation ultimately reclaimed ownership of the lake. Their main wish is to preserve its sanctity.
Today, it remains protected. Visitors may view it respectfully from the road, but permission is required to approach its sacred ground.
It’s one of those rare places where science and spirit hold hands. A geological marvel. A living prayer.
This is a wonderful reminder that not everything of good spirit has vanished. It is a reminder that good people in this world are working to protect it. And it shows us that some wonders still hum quietly in our midst.
The Earth and the Universe speak. This time, they might just be speaking in circles.
