Those heartaches we seem to know

Sometimes I get reflective. In that space in my heart when I try to see things. So here is a little bit of what came up for no reason at all.

Our heartaches.

All of us have secret heartaches.  Those little places in our beings that touch sadness.  These are the things that no one else knows about.  They might be quiet griefs or the silent disappointments. Regrets. Perhaps they are the unspoken losses, whatever that might be. It could be little or it could be large.

These linger quietly beneath our exterior.

Most of the time, we are fine. As such, we move through the world acting as if we are completely fine.  We laugh at the right moments, show up where we’re needed, and keep our voices even.

But beneath the surface, these small fractures will ache every now and again. And because they are unseen, they can begin to feel like they don’t matter.
But they do.

That’s why gentleness is necessary.  We should always be gentle with ourselves and with others. It is so vital. We never know what ache someone is tending to in private.  That is why it is so important that we act with kindness in our hearts.  We never know what little good act of kindness might help someone who also has a bit of despair.

So be soft. Be slow to judge. Be a safe landing place for others, and for yourself.

May we never forget that the heaviest burdens are often the ones no one sees.
