Change. We all know it’s part of life. Our physical world is in a constant state of change. Not only that, but our emotional, intellectual, and spiritual worlds also undergo an ongoing stream of change.
And yet, even the smallest shifts can send us spinning.
Unwelcome changes can feel like turbulence. Good changes can feel that way, too. But here’s a little truth about all of this. Change doesn’t always have to be hard. I wish I could learn this lesson.
But I’m told, again and again, that this is true. When it comes to change, it helps to start small.
We shouldn’t try to flip our entire world in one go. It might help when we break things down into bite-sized pieces. Little bits are easier to take on. Not the tall building in one leap.
Even though it is cliché, we should all remember that old saying about taking baby steps. We should remember that little rituals make new habits stick.
The other thing that the gurus say about embracing change is to loosen our grip. They say that life is like a river, and it moves whether we like it or not. They tell us that the more we flow with it, the smoother the ride.
I’m not so good at going with the flow. I love my routine. I love my structure. It is hard for me to embrace the spontaneous.
Life is learning. We should always remember that every change is also a classroom. It is all part of the lesson. We’ll come out wiser if we are paying attention. This could mean that we become softer in some ways and stronger in others.
May all your changes this day, and every day, be the kind that grow you gently. In the right direction.
