Your Attention. Please.

Our attention.

Now there’s something worth stopping for. Our attention is not endless. It is not automatic. And it is not free.

Our attention requires energy.

It is a kind of currency. We have to make deposits in the bank before we can make a withdrawal.  The same goes for our attention.  And also for our inner spirit.

Every day, we make small choices without noticing them. A headline flashes, and we click. A notification buzzes, and we look down at our phones. Someone vents or argues, and we lean into it.  The drama. Before long, our emotional budget is empty.

We have spent our awareness on noisy things we never meant to buy.

And here’s the strange truth. Where our attention goes, our reality follows.

Feed it outrage long enough, and the world starts to feel hostile. Feed it fear, and everything contracts. Feed it comparison, and suddenly nothing feels like enough.

That’s right. Sadly, nothing feels like enough.  Not our lives. Not our progress. Not you. Not me.

But attention is not just a reflex. It is direction.
How we spend it can make our world hard, or it can make our lives beautiful.

Give our attention to curiosity, and the world opens up wide. Give it to kindness and things soften, both around us and within us.

Yes, attention is finite. But that is exactly what makes it sacred.
An actor named Paul Atreides once said, “Where attention goes, energy flows. And where energy flows, ripples begin.”

One small focus changing the surface of everything.

Maybe we should pause and ask ourselves some important questions.
What do I want to strengthen?
What do I want to feel?
What deserves my attention?  And that’s not by habit, but by choice.

Because today, we will spend our attention currency.
The only real question is this.

On what?
