Set aside your worries, they say

We humans grow.
First, from little babies into adults.
And, there is a common belief that when we get older, our nose and our ears continue to grow. That isn’t really true. You see, they mostly look larger as we age because cartilage changes, skin loses elasticity, and gravity gradually stretches the soft tissues. It’s less about growth and more about the passage of time, leaving its mark. We sag.

Anyway, we grow. Not just physically.
If we are lucky, we are always growing mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as well.

Yes. If we try, we can continue to grow ourselves into better people. One good way is when we can learn to locate the seed of peace inside ourselves. Finding this place, this seed, helps us to have a source of serenity.

The world we are in can be a noisy world. Many of us feel the need to escape from the constant onslaught of activity, both real and digital. As such, we find ourselves longing for peace and searching to find it somewhere else. A place outside ourselves.

Oh sure. It’s true that there are places we can visit where we can experience peace. Maybe a walk in nature, or a trip to some sacred site. Maybe a swim, or a book, or a journal. But the truth is, we do not need to wait until we get to one of these places to feel at peace.

Instead, we can learn to locate that seed of peace inside ourselves. We can cultivate it so that it grows into a welcome source of serenity that we can always access, no matter where we are.

We experience peace when we are in a state of mental calm and serenity. It might surprise all of us to notice how infrequently we allow ourselves to be free from anxiety. I know this is a big problem for me. I frequently feel anxious. Frazzled-ish.

But I am told that realizing this is the first step to inner peace. If we wait until all the details of our lives are taken care of to allow us to experience peace, we will never feel peaceful. That’s because there is always something that our minds can grab onto to create anxiety.

The experts on our mental health say that it is important to consciously set aside your worries. They say, in so many words, that we should make time to cultivate inner peace.

It would benefit us to schedule time each day to meditate on peace. In that way, we then become able to experience what it feels like to be calm and serene.

This is easier said than done, I think.
But the gurus have some tips for all of us.

. It takes practice to learn how to let go of our worries, so give ourselves some time.
. Inhale deeply, and feel our worries dissolve with every exhale.
. Remind ourselves that soon enough we will be able to take care of everything we need to, but right now we are taking a break.
. As the clutter of our thoughts and concerns clears away, we will start to feel more serene. Allow ourselves to move deeper into this state with each inhale.
. Realize that we have the power to free ourselves from anxiety simply by deciding to do so.
. The more we practice feeling peaceful, the easier it will be for us to feel at peace.

May we all grow today in a good way.
May peace be with us all.
