The Big Grifter By Linda Stowe
If you were playing a word association game the first word that would come to mind when you heard the word grift would be Trump. He’s famous for it. Almost daily we see headlines about how blatantly Donald Trump is grifting his followers and the country.
We often associate grift with politicians because they have such wide access and opportunity. But I doubt that conning people is limited to politicians. If we look more closely, we can see many instances where this behavior has begun to drift over into other aspects of our society.
For instance, think about religious leaders who in the guise of supporting parishioners in times of emotional distress or social isolation, use psychological manipulation to create dependency and ultimately financial exploitation. Or what about insurance companies or financial institutions that confuse and manipulate their trusting customers?
Any time there is an opportunity for con artists to prey upon those who are vulnerable because of lack of information, emotional duress, or financial constraints, the window for grift is open. Payday lenders. Weight-loss programs. Nigerian princes. Anyone with an email address sees this every day. Donald Trump is just the tip of the iceberg.

Where do I start? I am seeing things in America that I never imagined would be possible in America. But each and every day, our Constitution is being desecrated by the highest elected official in our land — the president.
President Trump is making billions every day. Not only for himself but for his friends and family by promoting Bitcoin, elevating his own interest businesses, imposing tariffs, and so much more.
As Linda said, any time there is an opportunity for con artists to prey upon the vulnerable, we are sure to see the biggest grifters come forward. Grifter in Chief.
He has damaged our country terribly. Possibly beyond repair.
May we Americans who believe in the goodness of the United States and who believe in the Constitution as the founding document of our nation, stand strong against the big lie.
