The Most Wanted In America

Crime. It is everywhere.  In many forms.
We have a lot of it here in the United States. The FBI estimates that one crime is committed approximately every 2.6 seconds.

One and two.  Another crime.  Another place.

Crime in the United States sure is a complex thing.  It is an evolving issue here.   Crime is influenced by a variety of things, like social, economic, and cultural factors.

They say that our overall crime rates have “generally declined” over the past few decades.  And yet.  Certain categories—such as violent crime—have seen fluctuations in recent years.

Urban areas tend to experience higher crime rates than rural regions. Here in Preble County, we don’t seem to have all that much. Also, there are many factors that influence that beast we call crime.  Factors such as poverty, education, and access to mental health resources often influence the local crime levels throughout our land.

But here is one thing that stands true. Some crimes are worse than others.

To fight that crime, we have a group of real superheroes.  Better known as the FBI or Federal Bureau of Investigation.  It is the United States’ top federal law enforcement agency.

It was founded in 1908.  It operates under the Department of Justice. As we all know, the FBI investigates a wide range of crimes.  All of the crimes really,  including terrorism, cybercrime, organized crime, public corruption, and major violent crimes.

The FBI does so many things.  So many, in fact, that they have their own TV show. Wait. They have about twenty different TV shows.

One thing I love about them is their Ten Most Wanted List.  This good list was established on March 14, 1950. But there is an interesting story about how it got started.

It began after a news reporter from the International News Service asked the FBI for a list of the “toughest guys” they were trying to catch. The story was crazy-go-nuts popular with the public.  So much so that FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover decided to create an official, regularly updated list.

Of course, the purpose of the list is to enlist the public’s help in locating and capturing dangerous fugitives. Over the years, the list has become one of the most well-known crime-fighting tools in the United States.  But I’ve never come across any of these wrongdoers.  Thankfully. So, no reports have come from me.

Anytime you want, you can check who is on the list. https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten

So what do we make of all of this?
There is the good, and there is the bad.
I believe we should always try to stay on the side of good.

No baby is born wanting to be on the Most Wanted List.
But who knows how we will move from here to there?
