Can there be such a thing as healing?

In 2020, on this date, May 25, George Floyd, an unarmed African American man, was killed during an arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

We all watched.

And watched.

This set off massive protests around the country. It also generated greater support for the Black Lives Matter movement. I’ve had someone sitting at my pool tell me that BLM is a terrorist organization. I had to leave my own backyard.

All of this discrimination and hatred continues in our country. On May 14, 2022, ten people were gunned down at Tops Supermarket, in the name of white supremacy. A man, 18 years old, was doing “his part” to rid the world of black people.

And to move it one step further, a large portion of white Christian people don’t want the truth about black history to come out in our schools. They don’t want kids to say the word “gay” either. The hatred continues.

I don’t know where it will all go.
I don’t know how much better, or worse, it will get.

And then?

Yesterday, in Texas, 19 children were murdered in cold blood, along with their teacher.  Not many details have been released as of yet. But. It just goes on and on.  That is a certainty.

The only thing I know to do is to continue my awareness and my comprehension of all things discriminatory.  To be aware of all people and things filled with hate.

In that, I will try to work at being at peace. Within myself. For we cannot offer peace unto others, until we have found peace within ourselves.
