Old danger sayings.
“Look. It’s Danger Mouse.”
“Danger, Danger, Will Robinson. Danger.”
“Danger Zone.”
Ah. Danger is everywhere. We cannot avoid it. That possibility of suffering harm or injury.
One place danger lurks is in the workplace. For the most part, I had the kind of jobs that were low risk. Probably the most dangerous job I ever had was working at a Beer Drive-Thru. Drunk people in large cars, coming after more alcohol, driving those cars through a small building with me walking around there, waiting on them.
But that’s enough about me. There are a lot of other people out there doing dangerous work to make a living. We all know that heavy machinery and power tools are effective tools for improving efficiency. But. Unfortunately, they can also lead to serious accidents and fatal work injuries. Among other things.
To look at how bad things are, the Bureau of Labor Statistics collects and analyzes data on workplace deaths and injuries. Fatality rates are measured as incidents per 100,000 workers. They do this to gather a large sample size. That way, they can pinpoint the most dangerous jobs.
So here it is. The list of the Top Ten Most Dangerous Jobs:
10. Miscellaneous Agricultural Workers
9. Underground Mining Machine Operators
8. Structural Iron and Steel Workers
7. Refuse and Recyclable Material Collectors
6. Truck Drivers
5. Aircraft Pilots and Flight Engineers
4. General Construction Workers
3. Commercial Fishing and Hunting Workers
2. Roofers
1. Logging Workers

So there they are. I’m glad I don’t have to be a Logging Worker. But. I wonder how many of them perish during those Annual Log Rolling Competitions.
