Did you see that. I seen it. I seen it.

I don’t like to be corrected.
I think this is probably true for most of us.
And that is why I try never to correct people in public.

Even if it is one of my biggest “nails on the chalkboard” moments. That example comes in the form of “seen.”

Here in Preble County, a lot of people “seen” this or that.

“I seen him yesterday.”
“I looked out the window and seen a coyote in our field.”

Apparently, they’ve never had to cut a board in two, as they don’t know what a “saw” might be.

Anyway. There are some “phrases” that people also get wrong. These also irritate me but to a lesser degree. I won’t go into their origins. I’ll just list the wrong way and then the right way.

Wrong: I could care less.
Right: I couldn’t care less.

Wrong: All intensive purposes.
Right: All intents and purposes.

Wrong: It’s a doggy-dog world.
Right: It’s a dog-eat-dog world.

Wrong: That’s a bald-faced lie.
Right: That’s a bold-faced lie.

Wrong: Literally. “It was literally raining cats and dogs.”
Right: It isn’t literally. It is figuratively.

Wrong: Taken for granite.
Right: Taken for granted.

So there are a few.
I’m sure I’ve made lots of mistakes here when writing this blog. And those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
However, I’m not shaming anyone here. Let’s just say this is a public service announcement.

And with that? May your day be filled with little moments of joy and wondrous discoveries.

Remember. You seen it here first.

Don’t take any of it for granite.
