“Let go, or be dragged.”
— Zen proverb
There is the story of the person trying to reach the shore. They are swimming, treading, as they struggle to carry a large rock with them. They begin to tire and flail. The people on the shore are coaxing them on, cheering them. Then they yell out to the drowning person, the thing that seems obvious. “Drop the rock.”
And so it goes. Sometimes in life, we need to let go or be dragged. We need to drop the rock or drown. Which always brings to mind the Serenity Prayer.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
