Back to movie talk.
I love a good movie. But let’s face it. Some movies are much better than others. And the industry has a wide array of awards ceremonies when it comes to film.
Probably the king of them all is the Oscars. Every year, the Academy Awards celebrate the films considered the best of their time.
But history has shown that Oscar success does not always determine a movie’s lasting impact. Some of the most influential and best-loved films ever made walked away empty-handed. Yep. Nothing. And this was despite the fact that they earned critical praise for shaping cinema.
The list carries a wide range of films that have never earned an Oscar. These movies remain some of Hollywood’s most famous Oscar snubs.
1. Frankenstein (1931)
A landmark horror film starring Boris Karloff that helped define the genre.
2. The Great Dictator (1940)
Charlie Chaplin’s bold satire of fascism and antisemitism during World War II.
3. Double Indemnity (1944)
Widely regarded as one of the defining films of classic film noir.
4. Singin’ in the Rain (1952)
Now considered one of the greatest movie musicals ever made.
5. The Searchers (1956)
A highly influential Western directed by John Ford.
6. Psycho (1960)
Alfred Hitchcock’s groundbreaking psychological thriller.
7. Dr. Strangelove (1964)

8. Easy Rider (1969)
A low-budget road film that helped launch the “New Hollywood” era.
9. Taxi Driver (1976)
Martin Scorsese’s gritty psychological drama starring Robert De Niro.
10. Blade Runner (1982)
A visually influential science-fiction film that later became a cult classic.
11. The Color Purple (1985)
The acclaimed adaptation earned 11 nominations but no wins.
12. Reservoir Dogs (1992)
Quentin Tarantino’s influential debut crime film.
13. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
A prison drama now widely considered one of the most beloved films ever made.
14. The Blair Witch Project (1999)

15. Amélie (2001)
A celebrated French romantic comedy known for its distinctive visual style.
I’ve seen every one of these. I agree that most of them deserve an award of some sort. But a couple were not my cup of tea. Or bronze statue dude.
