Gratitude and Grace

What do these things have in common? A sharp knife.  WiFi.  Peaches.  Walking. Shasta daisies. Clean sheets.

Well.  Time’s up.  These are all things that I am grateful for.  Along with a million other things, from my red blood cells to cumulus clouds.  Throughout the day, I try to take notice of all of these things, in some way or another.

When we start our days with gratitude, we will immediately see how everything shifts. Gratitude moves us in the best direction.

Before the hustle and the noise of the world crash in, we should take a breath and notice what’s already here. The soft pillow.  Our ears.  The goodness of so many things in the world, just on the other side of our bedroom window.

The simple and ultimate fact that we get yet another sunrise.

Gratitude has a way of grounding us.  When we can give thanks for all the amazing things swirling about us, it reminds us that even in the middle of uncertainty, there are always things to honor.

It could be anything. A cup of coffee, the sound of birds, the comfort of someone’s voice. Small things, maybe. But we are fortunate to have them.  They make up our days.

And when gratitude leads, grace is never far behind. Grace is a beautiful thing. It is softer than ambition. Kinder than judgment.  Stronger than fear.

Grace is what steadies us.  It is our poise, humility, and gentleness.

Inviting grace into our lives doesn’t require grand gestures. It’s as simple as slowing down enough to listen, to forgive, to extend kindness. To the outside world, to others, and to ourselves.

Grace opens the possibilities for so many things.  For goodness.

May we always let gratitude set the tone for our everyday lives. May we let grace fill our minds, our hearts, and our souls.  The world might feel a little lighter, even for a moment.  A good moment.

May we start each day with gratitude. May we always invite grace to guide us. To be with us.  To be the biggest part of us.
