Heads? Tails? Just ask.

Making a decision can sometimes be tough. Difficult. Demanding. Arduous, even

And sometimes, it feels like our “pros” list is dead even with the “cons” list. Oh, which way to go?

Well, Polly is here to save the day. If you have an iPhone, that is.
Just long-press your side button, and repeat after me.

“Hey, Siri. Flip a coin.”

And Voila’. Good old Siri will flip a coin and make that decision for you.
“Heads,” she says.
And the next time, “Tails.” Maybe.

What the heck did we do before technology?
Oh. Wait. That’s right. We had to reach in our pockets, pull out a quarter, and do the flipping for ourselves.

What are we humans coming to?
Has technology made us lazy bums?
I think, in some ways, it has.

It is all convenient now. We used to have to go places to get things done. Like the bank if we wanted to complete a financial transaction. If we had to pay a bill, we’d have to get our checkbooks, write the check, address the envelope, stamp it, and walk or drive to the nearest mailbox. These days it is click, click, click. And done.

When I wanted to know how many nipples a giraffe has, I had to find a way to get to the library and look it up. If I wanted Esther Price candy, I would have to find a ride to Wayne Avenue to visit their store. Not now. Click. Click. Click.

These things can feel like magic sometimes. Yet, on the other hand, I think they are causing problems in our society. For one thing, there is a significant decrease in physical activity. All of this convenience can lead to a more sedentary lifestyle. Not to mention all the digital entertainment people engage in, be it social media, endless streaming of TV shows, or playing games.

I also think a lot of people have “over-reliance” issues. We seem to be becoming dependent on technology for tasks we could otherwise do ourselves. Like simple math for one. And a hundred other things.

All of the world’s technological advances are amazing and wonderful. And yet, at the same time, they can be harmful and detrimental. As always, there are two sides to every coin.

So what do we do? How do we choose?

Let’s ask our phones.
