It comes in the bowl. The top cereals.

I don’t eat cereal.  I never really have. As a kid, I had fried eggs, fried bologna, and white bread toast every morning for breakfast.  Almost every morning.

We never had cereal except for the occasional hot oatmeal.

I used to love sleeping over at my friends’ houses because they always ate cereal in the morning.  I especially love Cap’n Crunch.

Of course, everyone has their favorite cereal.  And it has been around a long time.  Cereal, as it turns out, is over 160 years old.  The first cold cereal was introduced in 1863 by some religious conservative vegetarian.  His name was James Caleb Jackson. He invented a cereal called Granula (not to be confused with Granola). It was made from graham flour dough that was baked, broken into chunks, and baked again, creating a hard, dense product that had to be soaked overnight in milk or water before it was soft enough to eat.   Okay, then.

Later on, John Harvey Kellogg created his own version of Granula (changing the name to Granola to avoid a lawsuit), and the whole breakfast cereal craze was born.

Today, there is some serious debate among food connoisseurs about what the best cereal might be.  I found a site that explored this topic.  They put together a list of the 50 best breakfast cereals of all time.

I’ll list the Top Ten and give you a link to the rest.
Does your best cereal take the cake?  Or bowl of milk?

10 – Cocoa Puffs
9 – Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds
8 – Lucky Charms
7 – Frosted Flakes
6 – Apple Jacks
5 – Froot Loops
4 – Oreo O’s
3 – Cap’n Crunch Crunch Berries
2 – Honey Nut Cheerios
1 – Cinnamon Toast Crunch

I object to this list wholly.
Regular old Cap’n Crunch should be number one.
Wheaties.  Life Cereal.
And no way Lucky Charms should be there. Blech.

Here are the rest.  And I’ll quit crying over spilt milk.
