Guess what.
July is here. The seventh month. The hot one.
Despite the global warming and terrible heat, there is much to look forward to in July.
Like this:
• World UFO Day: July 2 is observed as World UFO Day. Look to the skies, I say. This holiday is dedicated to raising awareness about unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and encouraging governments to declassify their files on UFO sightings. Tin foil is on sale at Amazon. Buy yours now.
• National Ice Cream Month: In the United States, July is recognized as National Ice Cream Month. All my frozen dairy friends are rejoicing. If that weren’t enough, National Ice Cream Day is now celebrated on the third Sunday of July. It was established by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 to celebrate America’s love for ice cream. Now, that is one great thing that the president accomplished. Did he give us a National Jelly Bean Day, too?
• Ruby, the Birthstone: The birthstone for July is the ruby, known for its deep red color and symbolic association with passion, love, and vitality. I think rubies are beautiful. I love sapphires, too. And diamonds. But a raw emerald is my favorite. Like the place with the Wizard.
• I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the Zodiac Signs: July marks the transition between two zodiac signs. People born from July 1 to July 22 fall under the sign of Cancer, while those born from July 23 to July 31 are born under the sign of Leo. My dad was a Cancer. And one of my sisters is a Cancer. Happy Birthday to you.
• I’d also be slacking if I didn’t bring up the many historical events: Many significant historical events occurred in July, including the Apollo 11 moon landing on July 20, 1969, the creation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on July 29, 1958, and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles ending World War I on July 28, 1919. And, of course, Independence Day.
• National Park System: On July 1, 1872, Yellowstone National Park in the United States was established as the world’s first national park. It is my favorite park. Anyway, this marked the beginning of the national park system, which now includes hundreds of protected natural areas around the world. Unless certain presidents are elected and they start breaking these down.
• And last but not least. National Hot Dog Month: Weiner time. Kids love them. Some adults, too. I like a hot dog that has both mustard and ketchup every so often. Same with my corn dog, which is really a hot dog wearing a onesie. The dog days of summer, in a different doggy way. Doggy bag ’em. I double-dog dare you. Doggone It. Who let the dogs out? You can’t dog-paddle your way out of this one. Just remember, it’s a dog-eat-dog world out there.
Happy July. Friends.
