We’re in school, I think. Earth school. Yes, our human bodies are in Earth school, and we are here to learn about matters concerning our hearts and our souls.
It seems that our lives are filled with lessons.
It is up to us to do the homework.
The knowledge that we find and the precious things that we learn are our rewards.
From birth to death, experience is our patient teacher. We might not be so patient, and sometimes we can’t understand a single word our teacher is saying, but eventually — hopefully — we see the “reason” behind the equation.
But all the lessons are not the same. Some are little things. Maybe they are easy lessons or repetitive lessons. And so we take them in and learn about living. We figure out how to navigate this world with grace, poise, and tolerance.
Yet, sometimes, there are the “doozies.” Those are the once-in-a-lifetime lessons. They hit us with impact. They touch us deeply. Oftentimes, they change the course of our lives.
But through it all, we continue to learn from our experiences if we are willing. If we are paying attention.
And that is the key. Our lives and our instruction are dependent on our ability and readiness to accept the lesson that has been put before us. No matter the circumstances. Sometimes, when we are blindsided by life, we choose to close our minds. Or maybe we can only see the lesson in a narrow-minded way. Behind it, though, is the thing that we are “supposed” to see.
All this learning can fill us with different emotions. Sometimes, it can be painful. At other times, it is nothing but goodness and pleasure. But no matter the situation, there is almost always some kind of lesson to be discovered.
When we choose to consciously be open to this, we eventually discover new ideas about love, compassion, resilience, grief, fear, trust, and so many other things.
Life is growth. It is always changing and moving. We have to be willing to learn. We don’t always know when we are experiencing a life lesson. But the wisdom is there. It is there to bless us and to help us through this path of learning.
And yet, we’ll never know it all. If we think we do, we just got a D-
