Mothers, Moms, Mamas.

Mothers. The feat of being a mother is universal and as old as time. Given that wingspan, the reaches of motherhood are innumerable.

And within that consortium of motherhood lies a wide range of mothers. Some are like saints, and at times, some are like sinners.

I was lucky and blessed with a good mom. Mom. Three little letters held so much within them, whenever we called her name, for the thousandth time, for the thousandth reason.

My heart swells when I think of her beautiful, genuine smile, and all the love and care that went with that. She gave so much of her life to being a mother, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

This is the day we set aside to celebrate our mothers. To show our appreciation and thanks. This should happen every day, for mothers. It should also happen for all people, everywhere — each day showing our kindness and appreciation for one another.

But today is Mother’s Day. So let us give thanks to all the mothers in our lives. For they are our foundations, our beginnings, our first glimpse of the world. And so much else, from our first heartbeat onward.

Happy Mother’s Day.
