The wordy, word. Take it. Leave it.

Welcome to Random Word Vacation

Yes, a brief break from the daily grind of this blog.
Possibly for the next few days or more, depending on my mental vacation need.
Instead, I am given a random word at https://randomwordgenerator.com/
And I will write something about it. The rule is, that I have to use the first word I get from the generator. No excuses. No substitutes.

Today’s WORD:

Loot

Now that is a fine word to start things off this week. Loot.

It can be either a noun or a verb. As a thing, it means money, goods, or private property. Especially when those things were obtained illegally taken by one party from another. As an action, it means to steal goods from a place.

I can remember visiting Russia, where we saw the “Amber Room” in Catherine the Great’s Palace. When WWII was flaring all over Europe and Russia, long after Catherine was dead and gone, the Russians dismantled that Amber Room to hide it from the encroaching Nazis. They stripped that room bear of all its jewels and gold. Their hiding wasn’t so great, though, and the Germans found the amber and looted all the goods. It was never to be seen again. At least, not by Russian eyes. Since then, the Amber Room has been restored. Beautifully.

These days, in our own country, there is a lot of looting going on by our politicians, past and present. The almighty dollar has become more important than “We the People.”

Loot.

That word loot reminds me of other things, though.
Perhaps a goofy bird wading by some shore.
Or a musical instrument.
“She played the loot beautifully.”
Or. Maybe something you use in the shower to scrub dead skin away.

And. As with so many other words, that is what I know, and do not know, about the loot.
