Politics By Linda Stowe
Most people talk about politics with those who share the same viewpoint. We have found that if we state our views with people we don’t know well, sooner or later a flash point will be reached, opinions will begin to clash, and before long we are lobbing talking points past each other with no real communication taking place. We come away convinced that those on the other side simply do not know what they are talking about, that they are unaware of how misinformed they are.
Earlier this month it occurred to me that even those who share our political views can also be misinformed. This thought came to me after a discussion about Trump’s abrupt pause on the tariffs after the US bond market started tanking. A day or so after this discussion, I was replaying what was said in my head and recalled that my friend had said he had checked his savings bonds to be sure they were okay. It was then that I realized my friend thought US savings bonds were the same as US treasury bonds. I wondered if I should set him straight but decided against it. Then I wondered what things I myself am misinformed about. As they say, you don’t know what you don’t know.

Polly here.
I loved this line from Linda’s writing: “We are lobbing talking points past each other with no real communication taking place.” This is so true.
Politics is quite a thing these days. More so than ever, it seems. Our country is in a state of chaos and turmoil. And there is a lot of misinformation being passed around out there that only exacerbates the situation.
FOX News is full of it. Seriously. I’ve watched with an open mind, but I’m always upended by the propaganda and all-out lies. I get my news from multiple sources worldwide.
But here is the thing. I’ve found in my personal conversations with “like-minded” people that sometimes misinformation is being relayed as well.
There is so much to keep track of with the Trump Storm. Every day, there is a new news cycle, depending on what controversial act he’s committed.
There is so much I don’t know and don’t fully understand about this world. But when I deep dive, I see just how bad things are.
The most important thing, I think, is that we strive to find TRUE information. We need to check several credible sources. We cannot put any faith in “gossip” websites that mask themselves as news hubs. Try looking to foreign news sources. They give an outside look and are consistently correct where the truth is concerned.
And. We must be honest. With others. With ourselves.
