I stay busy during my day. Every day.
I have this “thing” about keeping my immediate environment clean and in good order. My house and its surroundings. So, I usually spend a good amount of time each morning getting my “chore” list completed.
Once that is all in place, I can move on to other work items, such as writing, paperwork, bill paying, etc. Most of it is due to my OCD.
But I imagine I am not alone in this, OCD or not. Many of us work up an agenda for our days, either formally written out or in our minds. And we all get busy, moving from one thing to the next.
Or, we “hurry” through certain parts of our day, in order to “get to someplace” we’d rather be. Like, we hurry through paying our bills so that we get to doing our needlepoint, or reading our book, or working in our garden.
But here is the thing. All of it is part of living. And as such, I don’t think we should hurry through our lives. Either toward ambition or completion.
Instead, we should take the time to offer our awareness to each part of our day. If we get swept over by the “hurried busyness” of one thing, we might miss the moments of loveliness and presence.
These moments of goodness can be found in everything we do.
If we slow down and notice them.
