They say there is good power in staying positive.
Here is how it works.
Our world is made up of atoms. And those atoms are made up of energy. The world is made of energy.
There are only two kinds of charges in this energy. Positive and negative.
These are fundamental properties of matter.
Positive charges are typically carried by protons, which are found in the nucleus of an atom.
Negative charges are carried by electrons, which orbit the nucleus.
And then we have our good old neutrons. They also live in the nucleus, but they carry no charge (they are neutral), so they don’t count as a third kind of electrical charge.
Anyway. Back to us.
We are made up of these atoms. And this energy.
In physics, neither of these is considered better.
But in living our lives, there is good power in staying positive.
For one thing, positive thinking dramatically increases our chances of success in any endeavor. I think I can. I think I can. As that “Little Train” taught us so wisely.
We become our thoughts. You see, our thoughts are not simply vague pieces of information that enter our minds and then disappear.
The way we think and the things we think can shape our lives. Our thoughts drive us in one direction or the other.
When we keep a hopeful outlook and try to stick with positive thoughts, we start to create the kind of environment where good things can happen. It doesn’t mean everything will go perfectly, but it puts us in the right space to move toward what we truly want.
Staying positive doesn’t mean pretending everything’s fine when it’s not. It means being honest with ourselves and choosing to focus on the thoughts that help us grow, heal, and move forward.
The mind has a funny way of finding what it’s looking for. If we expect joy, good health, happiness, or a sense of purpose, we’ll probably start seeing those things more often.
Positive thinking might sound like a small thing—just shifting our attention—but it’s really a practice. A habit. And it takes some effort. When a negative thought creeps in (as they always do), maybe we just try swapping it for something more useful. Something hopeful.
Some people say our happiness, contentment, or success is up to us as individuals, and maybe there’s some truth to that. I think it is harder for some people than for others. And staying positive might not change your circumstances overnight, but it can instantly change how you feel in the moment.
Over time, that change in attitude can shift our whole experience. Once we really commit to thinking positively, it starts to feel like the things we’ve been hoping for are actually possible. Maybe even close.
