Here’s something to think about. Every little thing we do goes onward and outward. Yes. It is true. Even deciding to reheat that sad slice of pizza at 2 a.m.ripples out into the world in some way.
That’s cause and effect, baby.
It’s the universe’s way of keeping tabs. And it’s been in play since atoms first started bumping into each other billions of years ago. One bumps. And then another. Bumpity.
In science-speak, this principle shows up in physics as Newton’s third law: For every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction.
And in everyday life, it’s kind of the same idea. Just with more emotional influences.
Whether we’re aware of it or not, our thoughts, words, and actions send little shockwaves out into the world. Some of them land gently. Others crash around loudly. But either way, it all matters.
Even when we’re not consciously trying to make a difference, we do. Even if it’s something like muttering under your breath in traffic or zoning out at the grocery store. Our energy is still part of the human field.
The human field. Some scientists now refer to in terms of morphic resonance or field theory, depending on how far down the quantum rabbit hole you’re willing to tumble.
Anyway. So if our presence is always leaving a mark, wouldn’t it be nice if that was a good mark and not a bad one?
Here’s the good news about our lives. For the most part, we get to choose how we show up. Compassion, kindness, integrity. Those things don’t just stay tucked inside of us. They echo out. Our energy influences people near and far. It honestly does. This includes people we’ll never meet in person but who may just feel the ripple of your better intentions.
But here’s the kicker. We’ll never really know the full extent of our influence. Most of our effects fly way beyond the range of our perception. And that’s okay. We’re not meant to see the whole enchilada. We’re just supposed to do our part, one jalapeño pepper at a time.
We should always try to lead with goodwill, I think. Sincerity has a way of syncing up with the universe’s own rhythm.
When we come from a place of peace, our decisions tend to align with something much bigger than ourselves. If we move around with goodness in our hearts, that pushes the world ever so slightly toward light.
Everything we do is something. Every word, every choice, every laugh, every deep sigh. It all counts. We’ve been relaying this energy onward since the day we were born, and our waves of energy have been traveling outward ever since.
May we always try to make them beautiful ones.
