I love my senses. And yet? Sometimes, I feel that with aging, my senses have dulled somewhat. I have a large nose, which I got from my Grandma Wourms’ side of the family. That thing works like a charm. I can smell things you would not believe. But. My eyes don’t see like they used to. And the sound that moves through my ears is not as crisp. Nonetheless, everything works! And for that, I am eternally grateful.
The notion that people have five basic human senses is often considered a universal truth. But these days, many scientists are debating whether we may have anywhere from 22 to 33 different senses. (Like. Our senses of body space, balance, temperature, pain, internal awareness, pressure, and so many more.) (Our sense of hopscotch. Okay. I made that last one up.)
Anyway. That’s a lot of senses.
We’ve all heard of the sixth sense. The sixth sense, also known as extrasensory perception (ESP), is the ability to receive information without using the five traditional physical senses. Perhaps we might feel like something is going to happen before it actually does. Or. We may be able to “see” or “sense” the world on the other side of the veil from us. The ones who are all around us. Who knows?
I think it is true that our senses don’t stop there at the Big Five.
I have long said that we humans are dull creatures. We’ve forgotten how to feel, and see, and sense. The most of us are blind to the Universe around us. The energy. The being.
Today, I plan on exploring some of my other senses and see where they take me. I’m a bit excited about beginning this upcoming quest.
And so, now? Away I shall go.
