The biggest box office flops, ever

Have you ever dove into a pool and accidentally done a big belly flop? Well, I’m a pretty good diver. But I’ve done a belly flop on purpose before. And I’ll tell you what. They sting. They hurt. And they leave a mark.

Who knows this better than Hollywood? There have been quite a few belly flops in that place.

Movies. Most people love them. And when they are good, they bring opening-weekend records, gaining millions of dollars. And that all leads to billion-dollar franchises.

But for every box-office triumph, there’s always the opposite. We know them. We have seen them. They are the spectacular flops.

It is a well-known fact that making a movie has never been cheap. Modern blockbusters routinely cost well over $100 million just to produce. Big sets. Big stars. And on. Plus, that dollar amount often doubles once advertising and distribution are factored in.

Studios gamble enormous sums on these movies. They are hoping that audiences will show up in massive numbers. Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don’t. It’s a brutal business, it seems.

So here it is. The list of the biggest box office flops of all time.
