The small. The large. The seen. We will.

Here is a word I came across the other day from my good friend Red Webster.

microcosm
noun | MY-kruh-kah-zum

What It Means

A microcosm refers to something (such as a place or an event) that is seen or understood as a small version of something much larger. The phrase “in microcosm” describes something in a greatly reduced size or form.

Wow, I say.
Something that is seen or understood as a small version of something much larger.

Here is another word, from the same friend.

miracle
noun. | ˈmirək(ə)l |

What It Means

A miracle is a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency.
• a highly improbable or extraordinary event, development, or accomplishment that brings very welcome consequences.
• an amazing product or achievement, or an outstanding example of something.

In my mind, these two are directly related. Those miracles are everywhere if we only look and see.
In our world, I needn’t go far to find them, for they are in the small. They are in the mundane. They are in the common.

Those miracles can be understood as those microcosms — something that is seen or understood as a small version of something much larger.

Oh, I’ve written about it before. I know.

But.

I love these these beautiful things.
And, I think that that when we notice the small things, our days are miraculously filled with goodness and wonder. We are given the gift of experiencing the wonder of living.

It may seem natural to expect our feelings of happiness to come from the larger events in our lives. Maybe we look forward to a big vacation or a party. Perhaps an expected promotion at work. Or buying a brand-new car.

And these are all good things, surely.
Yet, when we are able to notice and appreciate the small things in our lives, great joy will fill our days, immediately.

Once we take the time to look around and witness the beauty, kindness, and laughter that envelop us, what may seem like the ordinariness of the every day becomes filled with the extraordinary detail of each individual moment. If we bring this sense of awareness to our lives for even a few minutes each day, we will begin to see just how blessed we truly are.

But it takes us to make it happen. We have to be willing to see. We must set the intention to notice more goodness in the world.

Our lives will be filled with more abundance.

And all of this will bring a deeper level of appreciation for everything the Universe has given to our lives. These miracles.
