Working nine to five. What a way to make a living.
Barely getting by. It’s all taking and no giving.
Those were the eloquent words of Dolly Parton, as we all know. And we also know the song continues, telling us that the working world is a tough place to be.
There are a lot of “lower scale” jobs where the pay is not nearly enough. I’m pretty sure everyone in those positions is hoping for a raise. And, on the slim chance that they actually get a raise? They wince at the feeble amount.
Spare the expense. Feed the canary another seed.
On the other end of that are the big whigs. The guys, and gals, with a title, like CEO, or CFO, or COO, or POOP.
Take Jon Winkelried from TPG Inc. (TPG). He makes $198,685,926 per year. That’s $200 million, folks.
Harvey M. Schwartz from the Carlyle Group Inc. (CG) pulls in $186,994,098.
And Hock E. Tan, working for Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) tallies $161,826,161 each year.
These figures don’t include total compensation. These guys are stinking rich.
And then we have the working workers. The federal minimum wage in the United States is $7.25 per hour, but minimum wages vary by state. As of January 1, 2024, the District of Columbia has the highest minimum wage in the country at $17 per hour.
And. The lowest minimum wage in the United States is $5.15 per hour in both Georgia and Wyoming. However, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, and employers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) must pay that amount.
So there you have it. The biggest ripoff of all.
Raping and pillaging. And the Republicans want to cut those hugely rich CEOs a break on their taxes. Because things will trickle down.
The only thing trickling down is contempt. In buckets.
