Those surprising little things. Hmmmm.

The world is a big place.  There is not a single person among us who will ever know the whole thing.  I mean, there are more than 8 billion people tromping around on the ball in 195 countries.  That makes for a lot of playbooks.

So, it should be no surprise that things pop up. Little facts and tidbits.  Those little “somethings” that always make us go “Hmmmmm.”

And today.  I’m brining you a few juicy bites of those things.

  GPS is wholly controlled by the USA and can be ‘switched off’ at any time.  Yes. It is true. It was acquired (1995) and is currently operated by the Department of Defense.  But. GPS is a multi-use system owned by the United States Government and paid for by the U.S. taxpayer.  You are welcome, world.

It is loved by most people.  High approval rating.  But approval ratings can go terribly wrong. Check this:

  Atheists in the USA have disapproval rates higher than most anyone.  People disapprove more of atheists than they do of Muslims and homosexuals.  That says a lot about the USA and where this country is going with religious beliefs.

Alright.  People don’t like atheists. But why?  Do they think they are bad people?  Or criminals?  Or liars?  Well. What about the lies that surround us every day?  The ones we accept.  Check this:

  We all know the award-winning “Aussie Shampoo.”  The purple one?  The one whose brand logo is a kangaroo?  Yeah. It is sold in Europe, Britain, and the USA.  But not Australia.  Here is the kicker.  The company is based out of Ohio. That would be Proctor and Gamble, right here in little Cincinnati, Ohio.

I’ve used Aussie before. Always leaves me feeling clean as a whistle.  Fresh as a daisy.  But how in the world do we keep other things fresh?  Like meat.  Check this:

 Carbon Monoxide is used in the USA to make meat appear fresher. This practice is banned in Canada, Japan, Singapore, and the European Union.  You see, carbon monoxide protects against microbial spoilage.  As an extra bonus, it enhances the meat color. It makes it look more red, as opposed to brownish-gray.  And people love to see that red meat.

These are four things I didn’t know about before today.
It is a big world out there, and I love to find out things I never knew before.
I hope you do, too.

And now I know.
