We belong to the tribe. All of them.

Many times during our lives, we belong to a tribe.

A tribe can be described as a distinctive, or close-knit, group. When we’re born, our tribe is our birth family.

We react to the world uniquely when we are in these different tribes.

We go to school, and our tribe becomes our classmates. We play on a ball team, and that is our tribe. Throughout our lives, we move through many of these groups, at home, at work, at worship, at play.

Some of them might seem trite in comparison to others. Some are fleeting, and we leave them because we feel they are just plain old tripe. But some tribes last a lifetime. We form bonds in them that we would never break. Not in a million years.

They are important in our lives. At our core, most humans are social creatures. Being part of a tribe gives us a sense of belonging. It’s comforting to know we’re not alone in this world. Tribes help us define who we are. They influence our values, our behavior, and our view of the world.

We all have our tribes. And it appears, they have us, too.
