What is the meaning of this, I say. Woot.

What is the meaning of this?

Has anyone really ever burst into a room and said this? “What is the meaning of this?”
They do it all the time in movies. I think that’s how I’m going to start showing up everywhere. Parties, dinner, Walmart, the drugstore. I’ll just walk in and pronounce it.
“What is the meaning of this?”

Oh. The meaning of all of this.

We all know it: Meaning is subjective.

We all see this world quite differently, even if our values match up. It all depends on perspective. I know I’ve said it a hundred times before, but I am often reminded of this fact.
Everyone deciphers what is happening — anywhere and any time — through a particular lens.

It is all based on what we know. The information in our brains to date. Everything we think and feel has lots of baggage attached to it. All our thoughts are packed with our history of past experiences.

As humans, then, we experience “things” and then we react.
It is just how we go merrily along.

But, we should always remember that the “how” of our reactions is based on all our past knowledge. Whether that “knowledge” is good information or not.

We are subjective beings, therefore.

So what we say and do carries weight. If we can just take a beat and measure our word choice carefully, we are doing something important. We are acknowledging that we are responding due to our history, and there is the possibility that we may not be right.
It’s always good to know that once words are spoken, we no longer control how they are interpreted. So we should always choose wisely.

As hard as I try to do this, I often miss the mark. So many times, I will feel strongly about a situation. I want others to agree with me. I want to be right. But I need to realize that there are more possibilities in the world than just the ones in my circle of knowledge. The world, the Universe, is a wonderfully big place.

There is so much that I don’t know. That we all don’t know.

I, for one, plan on spending my day looking for new ways of thinking.
About anything.
About everything.
