What we see in other is in us too. Maybe.

Have you ever noticed how certain people just pull us in?  It could be anyone.  It is almost like they’re holding up a mirror we didn’t even know we needed.

That’s the thing. Most of the time, the qualities we spot in others are actually reflections of what’s already living inside us.

Perhaps it goes this way.  When we meet someone and instantly see beauty, kindness, or light in them, we’re really catching a glimpse of our own goodness shining right back at us.

But it works both ways. If someone triggers frustration, anger, or straight-up annoyance, there’s a chance we’re bumping into pieces of ourselves that we’ve tried to ignore or shove into the background.

Not the easiest truth to sit with.  Not at all.

We’re all mirrors for each other. The way we react to people can reveal a lot about the stories we’re carrying around in our own souls.

The hard part isn’t spotting what we dislike in others.  It’s realizing that the same trait might live in us too. Unsettling? Absolutely. But also a chance to grow.

I’m not saying this happens with all people and all things.  No way, no how. But it does happen more often than we realize.

When we admire someone, we might take the opportunity to pause and look for that same spark inside ourselves. And. When someone rubs us the wrong way, we might try to get curious instead of defensive.

Either way, it’s a chance to learn who we are.

If we nurture compassion and respect in ourselves, we’ll draw more of that into our lives.

May we always try to let the goodness we see in others remind us of the goodness in us. May we always grow with this.
