Things could always be worse.
Most days, we feel pretty good. So, good, we don’t even think about it. We go about our lives without giving a single thought to our amazing breath and wonderful heartbeat.
We take these things as normal. Like it is supposed to be that way.
We have no need to repay anyone for the way that “normal” feels.
But then it happens. Sometimes. Something.
Perhaps an illness creeps in with a fever or a runny nose. Or worse.
Or maybe something happens in the world around us that upends our feeling of well-being. Challenging circumstances. Maybe a fender-bender. Or the threat of serious weather. Or perhaps we encounter severe people.
And that is when we know.
We are reminded we should be glad and thankful for our good health.
When we are sick, we notice it is gone.
Or we find that we should be grateful for the everyday comings and goings. When they are disrupted, we notice they are gone.
Then, we stand around like some lemur, his beady eyes searching the horizon for answers.
And we stay that way until the world we are in gets better.
We hope it will get better.
Always. Wanting something to be better.
But what we should remember is to be thankful for the mundane, the even flow, the repetitive movement of our lives. When things are good. So good that we forget to notice.
