When we bulk up, hulky, and green, only to return again.

We are happiest when we are at peace, wouldn’t you say? Peace, that quiet place which is free from disturbance or conflict. That state of calmness, restfulness, and tranquility of spirit. When we have it — when we feel that — what a masterful thing.

This is mostly unrelated, I think. But I can’t stand the feeling when I find out that someone has been dead for a long time, someone I liked, and I didn’t know it. Just this morning, I was reminded that Bill Bixby died. Some time ago, in 1993. I suppose I had forgotten (today is his birth date, 1936). At any rate, I loved him as an actor, especially in The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, and My Favorite Martian.

But when he took on the role of The Incredible Hulk, I was disappointed. He was plenty popular there, as Dr. David Banner. And then, of course, when he got green, and bulky, and, well, Hulky.

Actually, that’s kind of a great comparison to our own lives. Maybe not to those extremes. But, we get in those Hulk-like phases when we might be gripped by worry, fear, sadness, frustration, or anger. And we turn into an alternative reality of ourselves. A completely different beast.

Yet, what a great feeling when we return to that state of peace. After the melee clears and the dust settles, we are laying there in the corner, in a pile of rubble, with our clothes all shredded, from having been all hulked-out. Looking out over the destruction our former state of being caused. But what a relief to be back in our peaceful place, once again. Our David Banner space.

I rarely get angry these days. However, I do have times of worry, or dread. Sometimes sadness. I guess those are the times when I am getting my green on.

I find that when I spend quiet time with myself, in reflection, that I’m able to return to that goodness of peace.

In a world that is filled with busy noise, bad news, troubled words, and negative energy, it is important that we try to engage on a positive level. But we also need to reconnect with our place of spiritual comfort and rest. Today, I hope everyone has a chance to find moments of peace. To take that time for ourselves, and be with our stillness of spirit.

Today, may peace be with you.
