I am more apt to say “ruckus.”
It is true. If any kind of disturbance or disruption comes about, and I later recount the story to someone else? My go-to word in the description is “ruckus.”
“You should have seen it. That little mouse came out of nowhere and ran right across the restaurant floor. It caused one heck of a ruckus,” said me, to someone else, probably.
I thought about this because the word kerfuffle came across my screen not too long ago. It was one of Webster’s Word of the Day.
kerfuffle
noun | ker-FUFF-ul
What does it mean?
Kerfuffle is an informal word that means “a disturbance or fuss typically caused by a dispute or conflict.”
I’m not likely to say kerfuffle in public. It’s just not in my repertoire. I’d not be speaking like me if I said kerfuffle.
The sound of it reminds me of falafel. You know, that tasty Middle Eastern dish of spiced mashed chickpeas deep-fried and eaten in pita bread. I haven’t had one in a long time. But I like a good falafel.
Or kerfuffle reminds me of sniffle. Now, I will use sniffle in public, as there isn’t really a good replacement for the word.
I guess you could say snotted. But that’s kind of gross. Sniffle sounds like something little Fievel the Mouse would do if he were lost while out looking for the Falafel Stand.
Kerfuffle also reminds me of fluff. Maybe that’s why I don’t use it because I’m not too big on fluff. Like fluff on a cake. Or fluff when someone is speaking and being superficial.
About the only fluff I like is when I’m cleaning the house, and I fluff up the pillows or something.
Oh, don’t mind me today.
I’m not quite sure why I’m making such a ruckus of all of this.
