Speaking of births. What about rubber… bands?

We all can agree that the Earth is orbiting the sun. Along with the rest of the planets in our solar system. Round and round, we go, all at different rates and speeds. As a note. It was Nicolaus Copernicus who gave us this observance of the Universe in 1543. The one in which the Earth, along with the other planets, rotates around the Sun. His theory took more than a century to become widely accepted.

But here is something most people don’t realize. Our sun is moving. Yes. In fact, the sun and our entire solar system orbit around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. And fast. We are moving at an average velocity of 515,000 miles per hour. But imagine this: Even at that high rate, it still takes us about 230 million years to make one complete orbit around the Milky Way. She’s got a ticket to ride…

Since we have all that 230 million years of time on our hands, I figured we might as well fill it with a bucket full of facts. So today is “Bucket o’ Facts with a Side of Fries” day.

Let’s just get this one out of the way. Since it might trip us up otherwise.

April 11, 1954, was recorded as the most boring day in the world.

That’s right. The people who study these things say it is so. Statistics show that no significant occurrences took place in the world on that date. The computer program they used to calculate this examined the number of significant events that occur all over the world simultaneously. If that is the date of your birth, I am sorry.

Since we are speaking of births.

There are seven different types of twins.

Now, I only knew about the most familiar two — identical and fraternal types of twins. However, there are five more. These include half-identical, mirror image, mixed chromosome, superfetation, and superfecundation. That last one is twins with two different fathers for anyone writing a soap opera out there.

More on births.

Children are born less frequently on Saturdays.

Of all the days in the week, most children are born on Thursday. I came into town on a Wednesday, and we all know Wednesday’s child is full of woe. But Thursday’s child? Has far to go. As for Saturday? They work hard for a living, which might be why so few people want to be born on Saturdays.

From births to rubbers. Not those kinds of rubbers, but rubber bands.

Rubber bands will last much longer when they are refrigerated.

It is true. When a rubber band is kept cold, it causes the polymers to relax. The molecules all slow down. This keeps the band from breaking down as fast as it normally does. In case you have extra space in your fridge.

On to other things that might be in your refrigerator. How about dessert?

A favorite of many is Tiramisu.
Tiramisu translates to ‘take me to heaven’ in Italian.

For those who don’t know, traditionally, it is a coffee-flavored Italian dessert. It is made of ladyfingers dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cheese, flavored with cocoa.

I’ve never had it and doubt that I ever will. From the description, though? I’d rather have Pecan Pie or German Chocolate Cake with German Chocolate Icing. Or soft chocolate chip cookies.

If all my facts today have bored you silly, my apologies. I do aim to please, but sometimes I miss the target.

With that, I should end the drudgery. But first this, my bored friends.

There is a city in Oregon called Boring.

It also has a sister city called Dull in Scotland. This Oregon town was named after its founder William H. Boring. Dull was named for the Gaelic word, meadow.

I’ll wake you again tomorrow.
