The big yummies of the stars

We all have our favorite things to eat. But it changes over time. I mean, there are always those one or two “go-to” items. For some people, it is ice cream, or M&Ms, or potato chips. Squid.

But I think most of us go through phases when it comes to food. Like, for a while, we have a hankering for a big juicy cheeseburger with everything on it. Or a Circus Waffle. Maybe we yearn for an order of fried cheese. Who knows. It is different for everyone. And there are times when we get in a groove and keep eating that same thing time and again.

Well. It isn’t just us “everyday Joes” who do this. Some of the biggest stars have their favorite things to eat too.

Here is a little look at some of the departed music stars from our lives and what they liked to eat.

To begin with, David Bowie was a man of great music. But when it came to dinner time, he always loves to have Shepherd’s Pie. For those who have never had Shepherd’s Pie, by English tradition, it is a casserole sort of dish which contains minced meat, vegetables, and gravy under a potato crust.

Apparently, Bowie loved it so much that his wife, Iman, even learned to make Shepherd’s Pie for him. But when it came to eating, sometimes Bowie didn’t give it much thought. At one point, he admitted to having a diet that consisted of little more than milk, red peppers, and coke.

Bowie was a skinny fellow, that’s for sure.
Here’s another skinny on the list: Prince.

And Prince’s go-to meal was pancakes. He loved them anytime. They say he was a little obsessed with them.

One story goes that Prince and his band took on Eddie Murphy and some of Murphy’s friends in a game of basketball. Prince’s team won. Afterward, Prince treated everyone to a stack of pancakes.

Prince’s butler also told stories about Prince’s spontaneous pancake parties. One time, that butler had to fix an order of 14 plates of omelets and 14 plates of pancakes at 3 am for Prince and his pals.

This love of food spans the music world in a wide way.

Kurt Cobain loved Kraft Mac And Cheese. Not any old mac and cheese. It had to be Kraft. Made from the blue box.

John Lennon had a thing for cornflakes with cream. Apparently, Lennon always craved this as a child, and it stuck with him all his life.

Whitney Houston had a steady diet of Pop-Tarts, particularly the brown sugar flavor. But if she went out for a meal, it was typically sushi rolls.

Jimi Hendrix loved three things consistently. Spaghetti, strawberry shortcake, and banana cream pie. And he loved living in London but couldn’t stand English food.

And what about good old Elvis? His very favorite treat was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Sometimes, he ate them fried with banana slices. And other times, he would have an entire loaf of white bread stuffed with PB&J and bacon. That was the big Elvis. Not the skinny, cute Elvis.

I’m sure there are many more stories about the stars and what they loved to eat. But we see they are much like us in some ways, especially when it comes to enjoying certain types of food.

When I was a kid, one of my big treats was Braunschweiger and cracker. I was like a crack addict with that stuff. And, in my early 40s, I had a thing for popcorn. I ate it like crazy. Today, one of my favorite treats is my Snyder’s Honey Wheat Pretzel Braids dipped in cream cheese. It is even better with a little salt on the cheese.

And so, my friends, now you know.

And there we all go.
