Dead skin and low smog. Your choice, gladly.

You may already know this, but I’ll say it again, just in case.

Dead skin cells are a main ingredient in household dust.

Oh. It is true. According to researchers at Imperial College London, humans shed around 200 million skin cells each hour. That is a phenomenal number. I’m surprised we have any skin left, really. At any rate, all those dead skin pieces have to go somewhere when we’re indoors. So it floats through the air and lands on your shelves, and dining room table, and such. Well. Everywhere, really.

Dust under a microscope is like watching a horror movie, I’ll tell you.

Anyway. Have no fear. If the idea of skin dust all over the place isn’t sitting well with you, you should know this. A report from the American Chemical Society found that a skin oil called squalene naturally helps reduce indoor ozone levels by up to 15 percent. So, I suppose if you have a dusty house, your ozone levels are good. Low ozone means there’s no smog in your home. It also means your indoor crops have better production of fruits, vegetables, and grains. If your home has indoor soybean crops and such.

Personally, I’d rather not have the human dust everywhere. I’ll take my chances on the smog.

What is the point to all of this?
I’ll tell you.

To each his own.

I mean to say that different people have different preferences or tastes. We should always try to acknowledge that what one person likes or chooses may not be the same as what another person likes or chooses. The world would be a better place if we could all express a sense of tolerance or acceptance for diverse opinions, choices, or lifestyles.

The truth about us humans? We are equals by our birthrights. And all people are entitled to their own individual preferences. There is no right or wrong when it comes to matters of personal taste or choice.

So, live with dead human skin cells all over the place, or do not.

The choice is yours.
