I want to be a better person.
Throughout my life, I’d say this was, and is, true.
I wonder if all people feel this way, or just some people?
Do mass murderers want to become better people?
Or terrorists? Or shoplifters? Drug addicts? And on.
I think deep inside, we all must feel this way at some point. So, if that is the case, and we know it, how do we make it happen? Sometimes, we have no clear definition of what “better” means. But I suppose that is all part of the process.
We all navigate this world differently, depending on our capabilities. But in those experiences, we may feel driven to grow, expand, and change. This innate need for personal “betterment” can lead us down many paths.
Where do we begin? What is good for us? What is our right place in the world? All these thoughts can lead to frustrating uncertainty. But. Wherever we are in our lives, we only need to take a few small steps to make progress toward good direction.
Along with this, I think it is important that we keep our own concept of growth in mind rather than letting others push the course of our journey.
Becoming a better person is a whole-life project, isn’t it? It touches multiple areas of our lives.
We all know the qualities that we consider to be good. So, our growth can begin simply by making an effort to do good whenever possible. We should respect ourselves and others in all of this.
All people are deserving of compassion, consideration, and dignity. But. Not everyone can see this. Yet, when we have this understanding — that all people are worthy — we are more apt to treat them in the manner that we, ourselves, wish to be treated.
Evolution in ourselves. Showing dignity and integrity. Listening, seeing the world around us. Being kind. All these things make the world a better place.
These everyday measures are cultivating consciousness within ourselves. Our choices, actions, and behaviors.
And so we go.
And so we grow.
Into better people.
