And you get a car. And you get a car. Beam me up, Scottie.

What is it about this day?
September 8th?

Get this.
Things happen on this date.

On September 8th in 1960 we saw the nationwide release (United States) of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho.”  Of course it starred Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh and that darn shower.

Then, six years later, on September 8th in 1966 we watched as “Star Trek” premiered on NBC-TV.  Here we welcomed the stars William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.  Live long and prosper my friends.

Twenty years passed, and we saw a phenomenon of a different kind.  On September 8th, 1986, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” was first broadcast nationally. “And you get a car. And you get a car.  And you get a car….”

I’m thinking there may be some glitch in the TV Matrix on this particular date.  Who knows what else may have happened.

Did Dennis The Menace ruin Mr. Wilson’s prize-winning rose bush on this date?
Did Corporal Klinger finally get his discharge on M*A*S*H*?
Did the friends on Friends get in a massive friend-ending fight?
Did someone measure Six Feet Under and find out it was actually five feet?

Ah. The wonders of the TV world. The mysteries.
Are Bert and Ernie really Russian spies, and is the Cookie Monster undercover by the CIA?
Did Lassie and Rin Tin Tin have a secret child together?

That is one of the great beauties of life.  Well… puppies… yes.
But the great beauty of life that I am talking about are those things that we will never know. The mysteries. And there are so many.

It is how the Universe reminds us that we are humans, all connected through the things we do not know. Are we so sure we are right? Any of us?  Of course we can’t be sure.  The mysteries abound.

And we must make our way, just like everyone else, living and learning what we can, when we can.

And that would include Hitchcock, Kirk, and Winfrey.
All through the final frontier.  The mysterious.
