Lessons from Beer.

Beer is beer, right?  Wrong.

I used to be a beer drinker.  In quite large quantities, truth be told.  But I only drank one kind, and it was about as lowly on the beer scale as one can get.
Miller Lite. In the can or bottle. I didn’t much care which one as long as there was enough.  I don’t do it anymore.  I started early in life.  But, at a later, wiser age, I stopped.

But back to beer, beer.  There are quite a few aficionados out there who make a point of letting you know about it when it comes to beer.  They’ll tell you that some stand alone in the spotlight while others are lesser citizens when it comes to knowing the types of beers.

Truthfully, there is a lot to know when it comes to this stuff. Beer is basically made from four main ingredients: water, malted grains, hops, and yeast.  But how it is done makes the beers quite different.

There are lagers and ales.  There are stouts and porters. Pilsners and pales. Lights and darks, and even ambers.

And each one has a place of its own.  Take the lager.  Lager (/ˈlɑːɡər/) is a type of beer brewed and conditioned at low temperatures.  Lagers can be pale, amber, or dark. Pale lager is the most widely consumed and commercially available style of beer. Like Miller Lite.

The term “lager” comes from the German word for “storage,” as the beer was stored before drinking, traditionally in the same cool caves in which it was fermented.

Lager has storage in its meaning.
Forget beer for a minute.
We all have storage in our lives.

Sure, we store things in our homes, our cars, our garages, and on.  But more than that, we store things inside ourselves.  Our memories.  Our emotions.  Our thoughts.  Our joys and resentments.
My best advice when it comes to storage is that we shouldn’t be cluttered. Ever.  If it is not of use, if it doesn’t bring us joy, if it is getting in the way, then get rid of it.
Inside and out.

My better advice:
As with anything.  Moderation is key.
That goes for storage and for the beer.

And so we go.
