Be Right Here By Linda Stowe

There is no shame in being concerned about how things will shape up in the future. Everyone is concerned about things to come, particularly after all we have been through in the past decade.

But that’s the thing. We spend so much time looking ahead or thinking back that the present slips away like sand through an hourglass. And all at once … whoosh!… the present becomes the past and we’re on to the next thing. Close your eyes and be right here, right now. Grab onto that tick before it becomes a tock.

Polly here.

Living in the present moment is about fully immersing ourselves in the here and now, embracing each experience as it unfolds.

And the biggest thing? It encourages mindfulness, allowing us to appreciate the small joys and beauty in everyday life.  There are a million little gifts each day. Like spreading delicious strawberry jam on a warm biscuit.  Or, perhaps, hearing how a cat purrs so loudly when it sees us.  Or maybe noticing how good the last chapter of that book was.

The other thing is that by focusing on the present, we can reduce anxiety about the future and regrets about the past.  It can be hard to do, but the present is the only way to facilitate this.  It fosters a sense of peace and clarity. This practice invites us to engage our senses.  To notice where we are, what is around us, who we are with, or what we are doing. It reminds us to breathe.

In a world filled with distractions, cultivating a presence in the present helps us to be better people.  It encourages our well-being, transforming our daily experiences into meaningful moments.
