The great expanse on the everything, just got bigger.

His birthday is today. And. If you read a biographical blurb about him, they will tell you this about Edwin Hubble:

“Edwin Hubble, in full Edwin Powell Hubble, (born November 20, 1889, Marshfield, Missouri, U.S.—died September 28, 1953, San Marino, California), American astronomer who played a crucial role in establishing the field of extragalactic astronomy and is generally regarded as the leading observational cosmologist of the 20th century.” (Encyclopedia Britannica)

But the translation, if we break it down, tells us that he is the guy, who sat for hours and hours, at his telescope, eyes all blood shot, seeing floaters, gazing deep into the darkness, and lightness, of space. As with all the other scientists of that time, they saw Milky Way. More Milky Way. Oh look. It’s the Milky Way. (Nary a Snickers, Three Musketeer, or Kit Kat, to be found. Not even a Mars Bar.) He’d write down little numbers and formulas on the scratch pad in front of him. And then one day, it all clicked, and he made the big discovery. It is called The Hubble Sequence — the very principle that the Universe is expanding. And if that doesn’t send shivers down your spine, I don’t know what will.

The Universe is Expanding. I love this fact. Yet. Sometimes, this makes me feel very, very, small. Other times, it makes me feel like I am thiiiiissssss close to touching the infinite. To knowing the endless energy and existence, that is right on the other side of that whisper-thin veil. We get glimpses of it. But, for the most part, we humans can’t quite know its fullness. The enormity.

Some people profess to be in touch. Of course, most who claim to have a bigger toe in the water, are often regarded as charlatans. The Psychics, the Shamans, the Healers, and the Oracles. Most of mainstream America has regarded the with one word.

Woo.

Yes. The Woo. The world of the other worldly, is largely disregarded. Until recently. I just read an article that covered a recent shift in this trend. It appears that many major players in big corporations, business, athletics, entertainment, and more, are turning to “The Woo” for help. Several CEOs are basing their days on their Astrological Readings. People in power are using Reiki for stress reduction, relaxation, and the opening of business insights. It goes on and on. Olfactory Stimulation. Psychic Sessions. Reflexology. The Woo, that other part of the Universe that most of us don’t see, is getting noticed.

I, for one, cannot prove, or disprove any of this. So I am open for understanding this possibility. Just as Hubble noticed one day, that the Universe was, in fact, expanding. He found that piece of proof. Good on him. For all of us.

But this, as with all other things, is part of our existence, whether we give it the green light or not. There are many things I am asked to consider, on any given day. You too. And we base our judgements on our knowledge and past experience. Hopefully, keeping in mind, that there might be a prospect we have not considered.

Whether we are listening to an ad for dish soap, or following the Impeachment Hearings, we should be willing to consider the possibilities. But if we make our minds up before we hear about the grease-cutting bubbles, or the handshakes behind closed doors, we are missing the bigger picture. We are limiting our scope. Shortening our view.

And then, what are we left with?
Milky Way. More Milky Way. .. ….. ..
Oh. Look. More Milky Way.
