It’s the first Tuesday of the month, so Missy is here to clean. Missy is one of those people who show up at exactly the specified time. In this case, 9:00 AM. Last year since her car had been in a wreck, Missy had to get rides to get here but she still showed up at nine on the dot. Even that time her only available transportation was a bicycle, she showed up at the appointed time. Apparently, punctuality is something Missy values highly.
If I were to make up a check list of the two or three qualities that I value most in a person, I think dependability would be at the top of my list. Over my lifetime I have always gravitated toward people whom I could count on. If you say you’re going to do something, do it. If you let me down even once I would still like you, but I would no longer consider you dependable. For me, there are no shades of gray when it comes to being dependable.
I wondered what qualities other people might value most, so I texted my son and asked what top quality he looked for in another person. He said likeability. While that answer didn’t surprise me, it made me think about this topic in a new way. The most common thing I’ve heard about my son over the years is that he is likeable. Usually, I end my stories with a summation, but I don’t have one here. I’m still thinking about the relationship between our behaviors and our values.

Polly here.
I love this. Linda is always thinking in higher planes. This piece made me consider what quality I value most in another person. My first unbridled answer was “integrity.” But if I had to be more specific, I’d say honesty. I, too, am thinking more about this and how it relates to my character.
What is the quality you value the most in others?
And what about the quality you strive for most in yourself?
